YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE...MAYBE TWICE!

The Zombies have to be limited to the strength and speed they had when they were living. How will the undead hordes run after you when blood coagulates and rigor mortise has set in?

runners have always been a BIG concern for me. one thing that tends to ease my mind though is knowledge on how rigor mortise works.

1) it starts in the brain
2) then it works its way down to the internal organs
3) after that, it settles in the limbs (arms & legs)

after it goes to the limbs, they will be so stiff that they become shamblers and schuffle and stagger about. the only drawback to this is the stiffs in the funeral homes. reason being that the mortician (in order to work with the body) will manually "break out" the rigor by flexing the limbs of the dead person in question. hence i feel those will be still runners. but the ones that die randomly due to the bites or other causes will in the end be slow movers. so in my humble opinion, runners wont be a major deal. especially being rigor tends to hit pretty fast, like with in a few hours after death.
In several of the books I have read, including the badass Plague of the Dead, the runners are not fully dead yet. The infection has kicked in, but they still have a functioning circulatory system, once all that dies then the "true zombie" becomes the shambling decomposing puss bag. I am really fast for about 1 minute, and then it is over, so I will be screwed in this scenario. I feel like we will never see the running zombie though. At least I hope not. If they run then I doubt they are actually dead is what I am saying.
I think the Running Zombie is actually still alive. They would be dead mentally and driven by the same force that drives the shamblers but still having blood pumping would mean that their muscles are still getting oxygen. How long they live I'm sure would depend on a lot of things. Like any other Zombie they cant be stopped with say...gunshot wounds to the chest but they would be killed and after they rose up again they'd stagger around like any other dead guy or gal. Left alone I think if the virus didn't kill them then dehydration, starvation or sleep deprivation would. I wouldn't put any set time on it but I also would not give them more than a week of being speedy then it's the classic Stench.
That's a very good point.
While I'm still undecided about which type I prefer, I will admit, I find running zombies much more threatening. At times, their aggressive pursuit is just overwhelming.
i have to agree there brother. reason being, we the living can endure a lot. however even the strongest of us has a limit and once reached, has to stop and rest. these "runners" as some call them have no limit. so they can run on till their legs break off and the odds of a man outrunning one of these with those odds just dont exist. so numbers and good firearms are the best way to beat those. only the truely fool hearted would not be worried about a runner.

Running zombies came about just to spruce things up a bit in the zombie genre. Theres only so much you can do with a walking corpse besides change the scenery. When I think of runners I think of 28 Days later. That film featured the "rage" virus which meant they were not traditional dead zombies anyway. And the Dawn remake, although entertaining and a bit scary, was less realistic with the running zombies. Rigor mortis and lack of circulation are excellant points, which I feel make the slower Romero type zombies more realistic and overall better. How can a dead thing move fast? It's lucky its moving at all.
When i first saw a running zombie and how fast they were only one thing kame to my mind (sorry for saying this but you might get a laugh)

I hope I have enough time to set Boobie traps
i thought he said "Bootie Traps". lol.
Thats what I said boobie traps!!

glad to see someone out there remembers the "klassiks"
until the leg muscles decay and rip apart.

then we will have to deal with the krawlers...

Been Awhile, BUt I'm still Alive

Greetings Everyone,    Well it's been awhile. As things go, life carries us all in different directions from time to time but you always find your way home sooner or later. Well, life ain't all fun and games, but right now, things are going good. I have restarted my writing on my book again, and as I learn more about about some of the ROle-playing games I have gotten into, I am seriously thinking about rying to create an actual Zombie Survival Role-playing game. But have not set any time…
