Guillermo del Toro Brings to life Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark!

Some wicked news to strike at our childhood nostalgia as Guillermo del Toro will be producing and potentially directing a film adaptation of “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark“, the controversial ghost story book from Alvin Schwartz and artist Stephen Gammell!

Del Toro also said something very interesting on Twitter regarding the films visual style:

“To answer some questions on Scary Stories- of course we WILL have Stephen Gammell’s imagery be preeminent on the film! Yeah!!”

Selling more than 7 million copies worldwide, the three-book children’s series. Beginning with 1981′s “Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark,” continuing with “More Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark” (1984) and “Scary Stories 3: More Tales To Chill Your Bones” (1991). While the Writing isn't that scary the original art work by Gammell was pure nightmare fuel for generations of kids. In fact the drawings where so horrifying that they got the book banned in several places for being unfit for younger audiences.

Did you grow up reading these wonderfully terrifying books, and if so are you excited to see them brought to life by the master of dark tell, Guillermo himself? I for one can't wait, the mans work is so hauntingly beautiful I'm sure he will do these classics justice.
