YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE...MAYBE TWICE!
Sometimes surviving means shelter, and it isn’t always as easy as taking over an abandoned building, crawling into a cave, staking out a store-bought tent, or stumbling across an old cabin in the woods. Sometimes a survivor has to make a shelter for themselves, and when it comes to quick fixes and getting a reliable roof over your heard, tarp shelters can be a great way to go.
With a well-made tarp and a bit of 550 paracord, a knowledgeable survivor can easily achieve a bit of seclusion, safety, and shelter from a number of inconveniences or potential dangers like storms, suspicious characters, and SHTF situations. From an A-frame to arrow-head style, ground cover or basic lean-to, there are literally thousands of ways to set up a tarp shelter – some of which are shown in the image below (Image found from various online sources, though the original creator is unknown to me at this time).
However, not all tarps are created equal, and the same can be said for paracord. When it comes to gear meant for outliving the undead, along with any other disasters that might come your way, quality counts.
A while back, the folks over at BUDK were kind enough to send me an 8×10 foot reinforced camouflage tarp made by Texsport, along with a 300ft. spool of Black Savage 7-strand US. made 550 paracord.
The double-sided, fiber reinforced polyethylene material that makes up the body of the tarp, along with the reinforced edges, have proven to be extremely difficult to damage or tear. The grommets, placed every few feet or so around the perimeter of the tarp, make it easy to secure into a variety of positions and forms like those seen above, along with other uses like: water collection, debris relocation, blacking out windows, covering firewood and other important supplies, building a stretcher, and much more… though you’ll need a bit of paracord to help you out along the way. Weighing in at an estimated 2.lbs and easily rolled or folded down to about the size of a newspaper, the 8×10 tarp is a quick and easy piece of gear to pack on or in just about any Bug Out Bag you might have.
As for the 550 cord, it is available in a variety of colors, doesn’t weigh much, is relatively inexpensive, and very easy to pack and carry. Split into varying lengths as needed (I recommend packing no less than two 50 foot lengths in addition to keeping 100-200 feet stored at home for emergencies), a 300 foot spool of paracord can go a long way to help keeping a survivor a live.

what you could do is if you are certain this group wont make it. what you could do is screen your friends as a survival group. find out which ones will be into it and which wont. the ones that are into this you can screen further to find if they believe enough to join from there. mine used to be my mother, my dad and my niece. after my dad died and my niece got herself removed after causing my mom to break her hip. it became just me and mom. so i need to find two more to make my group complete again and if possible more to maintain the 4 or more ratio that i like so well. so i know where you are coming from there bro.
that would be good if i had friends. the only friend i ever had since i was in second grade borrowed over 400 dollars from me a few years ago then disappeared never talked to me again. and even threatened to call the cops on me when i walked all the way over to his house to ask for it because my family didn't have money to buy food. so yeah now the only people i know are guys like you online.
sounds like we have a similar problem. we made the plans to survive but didnt count on circumstances changing those plans for us.
This is cool...The boy Scouts are learning this kind of thing...It's funny how much people miss out when they don't put their boys through Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts...
yeah life has a way of just drop kick the plans right out of your mouth.
it used to be that i was the odd man out when i started prepping. it was not until the Florida incident that my family took it seriously. dad most of all. that man may have been 71 years old. but he was such a crack shot with any gun that you didnt want to be on the business end of what he shot. my mom is good with melee weapons and is starting to become a good shot. the only thing they had that slowed them down was age. my niece however was a whole new ballgame. she could see the shit hit in front of her and still not believe it or want to reason with it. it was not until i put the pictures of the poor homeless guy in Florida who had his face eaten that it sank in. i told her that if she can reason with something able to do this. best of luck to ya. lol. it was only after a few nightmares that she realized that you can reason with something that wants to eat you. however now with dad dead and my niece put in foster care because of her hurting mom. i need to start screening people to. if mom were to pass away for any reason. i will be totally alone come z-day. i guess its time to start the process after New Years Day. lol
man i wish we lived near each other we would be unstoppable together. thats it on z day come hell or high water I'm making my way over to you. and if i have anything to say about, it will be with an army to fight at our backs.
you are more then welcome here brother. z-day or not. all WZ family is welcome here always.
same goes to you man you ever find yourself wandering the zombie infested streets of jersey. where that be true undead or just the soulless whizzbang douche fucks i call zombies. your always welcome at my church. (which is gonna be the code name for my camp)
you got yourself a deal little brother. ;-)

Greetings Everyone, Well it's been awhile. As things go, life carries us all in different directions from time to time but you always find your way home sooner or later. Well, life ain't all fun and games, but right now, things are going good. I have restarted my writing on my book again, and as I learn more about about some of the ROle-playing games I have gotten into, I am seriously thinking about rying to create an actual Zombie Survival Role-playing game. But have not set any time…
