Wicked Zombies

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE...MAYBE TWICE!

Hey remember awhile back when there seemed to be lots of people who wanted to tell you that the zombies are already among us. That the news stories indicate there are actual zombies out there, eating people, and creating more of their kind. They tell me the "government" is suppressing evidence, and that they won't tell us anything of value until it is too late. That we are more or less left to our own devices to determine when to take action. At least some of these people apparently own firearms, of which they seem extremely fond. I see from the rest of the "news", that we don't talk about here, that shooting somebody just because they scare you will get you a ticket to the monkey house to play volleyball for the rest of your life.

So it got me thinking. as thinking, responsible, human beings, let me ask, "At what point do you intend to open fire?" How do you know if the person walking towards you is undead, as opposed to say a disoriented wino, or a person with a disability or an injury?  Do they need to be an actual zombie before you kill them, or just appear "zombie like"? What constitutes a threat worth shooting someone?

Now, let's keep in mind you can't afford to get scratched or bitten. Even a minor wound inflicted by a zombie would seem to guarantee infection and death. You have to maintain at least some distance. The chances are you aren't going to get a chance at a conversation. Also keep in mind that going in front of a judge saying "I thought he was a zombie," after you just smoked Harry the Homeless guy, is going to get you laughed at before they send you off for a life of savage man love in a state institution. Zombies are unlikely to threaten you, brandish a weapon, our otherwise give you excuse under existing law for the use of deadly force. So at what point do you shoot somebody, or bust them in the head with your tire iron, or whatever?

I am not trying to be a butthead here, but these are these questions that make the difference between a legitimate defense of one's life, and appearing on the news as another deluded jackass of a nutcase who is going to the slam for the rest of his life. If we consider any of this "real", it is my thought that if anyone is actually planning on picking up a gun they should have a pretty clear idea on what they intend to do with it, but I don't seem to hear much about that.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

No one wants to risk getting bit but on the other hand I know I do not want to shoot and kill innocent people either. In the zombie uprising people will be disorientated and shambling but it is up to us to decipher the difference between the undead and the living.

I say verbal warning followed by non lethal action like peppery spray or tazer. if they haven't show human reaction and are still coming then shot in the leg. zombie or human it will cripple them giving you time to carefully plan you next move. examination and if its a zombie double tap to the head. some kinda coked up human call 911.

if they are close enough to make a judgment call. then you can pretty much tell if they are a zombie or not. i mean at a distance of no less then 6 foot away. you can tell whats what with them and whether to open fire or bash their heads in or not.

i don't know man, old rotten zombies yes. but day one just turned single bite might not be so easy. especially if its at night. they could be drunk high who knows.

this is why the minimum safe distance of 6 feet. that way if you are still not sure. you have a less lethal attack option still available to you.

i agree but verbal warning first before the get that close

if they dont respond to verbal warning by 12 feet. then its not very likely they will respond at 6 feet. that is where action has to happen be it lethal or non-lethal. and at 6 feet. you need to make a snap decision. so if you take a non-lethal measure and break the leg and they still keep coming. you then have another choice to make. finish them off or leave them behind. if you leave them behind and it eats some poor kid that happens upon it. i would not want to be the one to live with that one. but if you finish it off. then that is one less zombie. and who knows. you may have finished off patient zero in that encounter. you could be ending a potential outbreak before it happens.

i agree

Wait a minute, are we talking the first day of the Zombie Apocalypse or we talking about an act like what happened in Miami??

If we're talking the first day of all out Zombiegedon....

Get within fifty feet from me and you don't answer to my first warning, Warning shot in the air...

Get within twenty-five feet and still no answer to my warning, GOODBYE HEAD!!!

I have to much riding on me surviving, two verbal and on physical warning is all you get when the Zombiegedon begins....

Now if we're talking about something like the attack in Miami, at ten feet if the guy or woman don't look right, I would take out a leg or legs just to by time for me to get the hell out of dodge....

my guess is like what happened in Miami. because if we're talking an outright z-poc. all bets are off in my book.

that or very early on in the zpoc like before you know that it's zombies.

since we are talking a situation like that. i would go with the 12 to 6 foot rule then.

Been Awhile, BUt I'm still Alive

Greetings Everyone,    Well it's been awhile. As things go, life carries us all in different directions from time to time but you always find your way home sooner or later. Well, life ain't all fun and games, but right now, things are going good. I have restarted my writing on my book again, and as I learn more about about some of the ROle-playing games I have gotten into, I am seriously thinking about rying to create an actual Zombie Survival Role-playing game. But have not set any time…
