The Dream of a Dream on a Cloud of Bubbles

I'm an idiot. I took a bubble bath earlier today and fell asleep. My dream was... odd. I had just finished watching Oprah's discussion on The Freedom Riders--hundreds of men and women, black and white, who had tried to stop segregation 50 years ago by riding on buses around the nation and refusing to sit in the back. They were attacked by many men and women; buses were burned, they were sent to prison, they were beaten--and sometimes killed. 

My dream was about me being one of those people. I was a twenty-something year old woman who was close friends with a black girl, and I was ostracized because of it. It was terrifying, being surrounded by prejudiced people who wanted nothing more than our blood on their hands.

I think I can understand a tiny bit about the fear they felt when they boarded those buses. They stood up for what they believed was right--that every man and woman is created equal, despite race, religion, and so on. Even in a dream, it was pretty scary. When they decided that they would no longer stand back and let petty people stand in their way, they thought they were going to die. I sure as hell thought I was, too, even if it was a dream in a bathtub.
