0300 hrs

During the patrol the most important member of the patrol is the point man or in Task Force Amazon's case point girl. They must keep their wits and composure when walking at the front of a patrol as they maybe the first one fired upon if spotted by a sniper or group of marauding armed raiders or attacked by an infected. Most military ambushes conducted by trained forces allow the pointman to clear a kill zone and then open up on the main body of the patrol, but most of the armed aggressors have no miltary training and just rely on intimidation of unarmed civilians. The majority of our patrols are at night for our safety as you can spot movement in our mountains up to a mile from some ridges. Task Force Amazon operates various OP's during the day as to watch or listen for any attackers both living or dead. We also notice that the armed raiders have no light or noise discipline and you can see a cigarette cherry from several miles out and we know the infected don't smoke. Our patrols will stop and listen every often and listen for the infected moaning or breaking branches as they move.

Patrols are important as that's how we obtain food and water and supplies, as there are thousands of abandon homes and vehicles, but then again the former owners of those are now infected and tend to hang in the area never straying to far. Some patrols are tasked to eliminate groups of infected that gather and pose a threat to us our the surrounding survival camps, that's the easy part since the infected have no air support, or artillery support, no weapons at all so it becomes a turkey shoot with silenced HK MP5SD's or compound bows. Our point girls normally are volunteers and actually get a rush knowing the danger of their job and how important they are to the girls that follow them. I trained the girls in every immediate action drill, formation and any small unit drill I possibly could come up with, and now they are quite skilled in their patrolling and combat skills. The most important drill is when they break contact and need to get out of the area, each girl taps another as they peel away leaving nobody behind as combat can get pretty confusing so they must think as a team not as an individual. We have no crew served automatic weapons such as a SAW or M60 for firepower during patrols, but each patrol has several girls who carry a 75 round drum magazine in their M4's just in case a high volume of fire is needed in a mad minute. So I'm sitting here at 0300 watching patrols come in and out of the area, like a proud coach of an undefeated sports team, listening to them telling their own "war stories" in the patrol debriefings, and in turn making a history of Task Force Amazon
