After setting up Aidan's gear he pulled down the second holster that housed his Walther P22 pistol. The pistol had a small red laser attached to it and at screwed onto the end of the barrel was a .22 caliber suppresser that he had also had to obtain a tax stamp for in order to purchase. Most suppressors didn't make a gun anywhere near as quiet as in the movies but his P22 fired small enough rounds that it made almost no noise with the suppressor mounted. He had five magazines for the pistol that each held ten .22 rimfire rounds as well as a brick of ammunition that had almost five-hundred rounds left in it. Brendon attached that holster to the old woodland cammo vest that he had been issued in the days before the army had switched over to their digital cammo. The vests had six magazine pouches as well and each was made to house two M-4 magazines but would only hold one AK magazine each for the Krinkov Rebecca was carrying.
Brendon brought both of the vests as well as the AR-15 out to the others and gave them each a quick run through of their gear. He also gave each of them a hydration pack to wear on their backs. He hoped to make it to Wiggins' by vehicle but the news had shown chaos on the streets and many roads were blocked by accidents. If they had to make it on foot he wanted them all to have water to keep hydrated with.
While he was showing them their gear the city's emergency tornado sirens started blaring in the distance. They all looked to the TV and saw that there was nothing new being announced in the coverage and agreed that somebody had probably just set off the tornado sirens to get people to turn on the news. A lot of people paid no attention to the morning news so chances were there were still thousands of people in the city that had no idea anything was wrong. It had taken the officials long enough to think to set off the sirens though, the situation might not be as bad as it currently was had they thought to turn on the sirens in the middle of the night while most of the population had been sleeping.
With Aidan and Rebecca's primary gear chosen he decided that it was time to arrange his own equipment. He pulled his AK-47 from the safe having decided that particular rifle would serve him best. He had put a black M-4 stock on the rifle along with a rail system up front that had a holographic red dot sight on top and a green laser and flashlight on either side.
Everything on his weapon checked out so he rolled a magazine into the rifle and placed it onto his bed. He knew he was going to need to wear something other than just gym shorts and a t-shirt if he was going to go out there again so he removed his pistol belt and began thinking on what would be best to wear. He really didn't want to wear his army combat uniform since a lot of people in the city likely had negative feelings against the military at the moment considering thousands of soldiers had the city encircled and were keeping everyone contained with the infected, but he couldn't find any other clothing in his closet that would be as efficient. After some debate he swapped out his shorts for the trousers to one of his uniforms knowing that the cargo and ankle pockets would come in handy. He put on a undershirt and his uniform jacket as well since the jacket had a number of useful pockets on it. He again went to his closet and picked through his pairs of combat boots before finding a set of summer boots that were still reasonably new but had been worn enough to be broken in.
Next he grabbed his black shooting vest from the stand in his closet. The vest was a molle vest that allowed him to attach whatever pouches he would like anywhere on the vest. The vest had six mag pouches running along the stomach and sides and each pouch could hold either three M-4 magazines or two mags for his AK. He placed a dozen loaded AK mags in the pouches and checked his remaining ammo supply for the rifle. Overall he still had an unopened thousand round case and another case that had only recently been opened. He did some quick math in his head and figured that he had just over 2,000 rounds of 7.62x39mm. Satisfied that this would be more than enough ammo to feed his rifle for a while he moved on to check the rest of the vest. On the left chest was a radio pouch that he placed one of his two portable radios into. The three of them wouldn't be needing to use radios on the trip to Wiggins' apartment but there was always the chance that they could need them in the future. On the back of his vest he had attached a large pouch that held his hydration pack giving him a three liter supply of water. On the lower back of his vest was the sheath for his KaBar sitting horizontally. The opening was to his left so that he could draw the knife with his left hand without taking his right hand and trigger finger from whatever weapon he had drawn at the time. At the same time the knife was still in a decent position to be drawn with his right hand if need be. At that moment his knife was still sitting on the kitchen counter covered in blood. He didn't want to cut himself and get whatever disease it was that the man he had stabbed was carrying so he made a mental note to boil some water and clean off the knife before they left.
