Brendon put the laptop on the ground next to him and let out a big sigh not wanting to set foot outside again even though linking up was a good plan. He noticed that both Aidan and Rebecca were looking at him with confused expressions. He probably should have asked for their input on everything going in on the chat room but he had been a little too fixated on the conversation to think of taking the time to ask them.
He took some time to fill them in on everything that had been said and what he thought was the best plan for getting to Wiggins' which was only about a twenty block trip. Rebecca didn't like the idea at all, so far she hadn't been face to face with one of these people and they seemed to be pretty safe here, but she said she would go if they did. Aidan wasn't very thrilled either but he agreed that there was safety in numbers. The three of them agreed that if they were going to make it to Wiggins' they needed to make their move soon before the ratio of infected people to normal people in this part of the city got any worse.
Brendon went to his bedroom closet and entered the combination on his gun safe. He thought over his weapons collection and decided that his Bulgarian AKS-74U Krinkov would be the best weapon for Rebecca to use. It was the shortened version of the AK-74 that was chambered for 5.45x39mm rounds. He had seven thirty round magazines for the weapon and roughly 1,800 rounds. The barrel length meant that he had been required to file paperwork with the ATF in order to get a tax stamp that had allowed him to obtain the weapon. Like the rest of his rifles it was only semi-automatic since legal automatic weapons were worth more than he could afford on the civilian market. He loaded a full magazine into the weapon, switched off the safety which allowed him to chamber a round, then flipped the safety lever back into place. He grabbed two more magazines then brought the rifle out to Rebecca. She had gone shooting with him a handful of times and she had liked this particular rifle and had been decent with it so he knew she would be helpful if the men outside managed to get in through the door. He brought all three cases of MREs, two military ruck sacks, his three day assault pack, and three military duffel bags out to the living room and instructed them on how to strip down an MRE so that all of the unnecessary packaging was removed to save space in the packs and to put food from the kitchen into the bags as well.
