Outbreak Chapter 41

He heard gunfire coming from the second floor and peaked through the doorway and saw that Wiggins had gone into the second floor with James and Aidan. The stairwell led from the center of the building into a long hallway that ran the length of the building. The hallway itself made a large rectangle with two person rooms lining the outside of the hallways and the restroom, laundry room, and study rooms on the inside of the rectangle. Wiggins had set up James and Aidan on either side of the doorway facing down the hallway. Each had taken a knee and was firing on zombies that were coming around the corners and walking out of the rooms lining the hallway. Wiggins was standing between the two directing their fire, when Brendon stepped into the hallway Wiggins nodded to him and stopped firing. "There don't seem to be too many of them on this floor, my guess is that there were enough students that had left for spring break that this place wasn't very full." He pointed to the room 205 straight across from the stairwell, "that room is clear, I suggest we use it as a rally point, send any other survivors we find to this location since it's so close to our people in the stairs. The three of us already dropped our packs and anything that doesn't go boom in there, suggest you all do the same."
"Good plan," Brendon replied, "We'll need to get to the other stairwell and make sure the ground level door there gets barricaded as well." To get to the other stairwell they had to head left all the way down the hallway then take another left down a shorter hall to get to the door to other stairwell at the end. He looked over who they had left with them and pointed to the teenage boy they had picked up. "You looked like you were decent with the shotgun you picked up, I'm gonna need you to watch the hallway to the right while everyone heads the other way to get to the stairs."
There were seven people left including Brendon without assigned areas and all of them were people that Brendon trusted to pull their weight and keep their cool fighting zeds room to room. He told Griffin and Wiggins to each grab two of the remaining people and start clearing rooms until they got to the stairwell. They didn't have the manpower to cover all of the halls so they needed to make sure every room between the two stairwells was cleared out so they didn't have any surprises come lunging out at them. Everyone that still had packs on dropped them in the room across from the stairwell and the two teams headed out. Griffin took James and the old man with him while Wiggins took Ethan and Aidan. The teams started leapfrogging down the hall with each team sending two people into a room to clear it while the third stayed out in the hall and dealt with any zombies that came out of the uncleared rooms.
