Outbreak Chapter 39

After reholstering his pistol he looked around and saw that the last of the undead that had swarmed them were truly dead. He took a moment to pick up his shotgun from the ground next to Tom's body and tossed it into the back of the truck and saw that somebody else must have picked up the dead man's Nagant when he wasn't looking because the blood soaked rifle was laying on top of the pile of bags.
With the immediate threat gone the group resumed their previous pace but the horde behind them was a lot closer now since they had been forced to slow down and deal with the smaller group. They had just lost two people and had another become infected in a manner of seconds and he was starting too feel a little bit of doubt, he could only hope that he could get the rest of the group the last few blocks to the dormitory complex without taking any more losses.
