The Tacoma picked up speed ahead of them opening up the gap between the two vehicles. The Explorer had just started to pick up speed when Brendon noticed two faces peaking over the top of a delivery truck that belonged to a company that made fruit bouquets. He didn't think that these things would have any reason to lay flat on top of a truck and there weren't many of them near the truck so he decided to take a chance. He told Aidan to pull up as close as he could to the side of the truck then waved Griffin's vehicle and the car tailing them on. He saw the confused look on Griffin's face as they passed so he gave him a shout letting him know that they would catch up.
Brendon raised his rifle and dropped the zeds closest to the truck hoping they wouldn't be there long enough for more to catch up. As they parked next to the truck both people stood up and sure enough they were both still alive. From the way they were dressed they both looked like they had been at the bars the night before. The first was a man wearing a leather coat that looked to be in his mid twenties. The second was a young woman who looked like she was barely in her early twenties, she had long brown hair and wore a tight fitting black dress that didn't leave much to the imagination giving Brendon the impression that she either worked at one of the bars as a server or was trying a little too hard to impress the guys. "Jump down and we'll get you out of here," he shouted up to the two. The man jumped immediately and landed on the roof of the explorer with no problem since it was only five feet lower than the roof of the truck. The woman hesitated and Brendon had to resume shooting at the approaching zeds to prevent the vehicle from getting swarmed. "Jump or we're leaving you behind," he shouted at the woman fully intending on following through with the threat.
She must have believed him because she clenched her fists and jumped from the truck. She was wearing high heals and landed awkwardly on the roof quickly losing her balance and stumbling forward. The man was quick though and was able to grab her left arm and prevent her from falling from the roof. "Hold on," he said to the two of them just before letting Aidan know that they were good to go. The two of them grabbed the luggage rack and Aidan gradually accelerated until they started to close the gap with the other vehicles that were a few hundred yards ahead of them by now.
Brendon wasn't really sure why he had decided to help the two, maybe it was because so far he had convinced himself that everyone else they had seen was too far away from the streets to be helped, or maybe the guilt of not helping so many other people was finally getting to him. He looked back at the two happy to see that even though both of them looked scared to death neither of them showed any signs of bite marks.
