A man came sprinting out of the broken front door of the apartment building and Brendon had his red dot lined up with the man's head before his mind registered that this guy was running full sprint. Up until this point he hadn't seen any infected moving that fast which had been their saving grace, if they had been able to sprint they wouldn't have even lasted this long. He held off on pulling the trigger uncertain as to if the man was infected or not. All doubt left his mind when the man saw him and threw his arms up in front of the face and yelled "Don't shoot!"
Brendon lowered his rifle and took a quick look up and down the man. He was wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt and didn't appear to have any visible injuries on him. "Watch your fire the guy coming out of the building isn't infected," he shouted to Aidan and Rebecca not wanting either of them to get trigger happy with the man like he nearly had. He waved the man over to them wanting to keep him in the middle of the trio where he would be safest.
"You've got to get me out of here," the man yelled in a panicked voice. His breathing was heavily with sweat dripping down his face and he was visibly shaking.
"Get a handle on yourself and calm down," Brendon said to him between taking shots at more of the infected. We just need to get these bags to our vehicle and we'll get out of here." Seconds later the four of them arrived at the bags and they took a few moments to eliminate the closest of the infected before Brendon altered the plan.
"You grab two of those bags and help us carry them to that white explorer over there," Brendon said motioning to their unnamed addition. "Rebecca you're gonna grab the last of the bags." The man eagerly grabbed two of the duffels seemingly happy to do whatever it took to get them to take him along. Brendon felt bad making Rebecca grab one of the heavy duffels since she was smaller than the other two but they both had rifles with significantly longer barrels making them more accurate so he wanted himself and Aidan to keep shooting considering he could now see dozens of infected in the distance.
As they made the short trip back to his Explorer he noticed that Rebecca was still doing a decent job of taking out infected even with the huge military duffel bag on her back weighing her down. There were enough infected in the area now that both he and Aidan had to reload their rifles before making it halfway back to the Explorer. Once they got to his vehicle Rebecca and the man that had joined them both threw the duffels in the back and Rebecca slammed the hatch shut. "Aidan you're driving," Brendon shouted as he pulled his keys from his pocket and tossed them to his friend, "Rebecca you take shotgun." Up until recently Aidan had drove almost exclusively small cars in his lifetime. Brendon had let him borrow his Explorer a few months earlier when his car was broke down. He had been nervous taking corners in a taller vehicle but had grown to really like driving Brendon's SUV.
