The news stations continued to show footage of the chaos and violence on the streets and the more he watched the more nervous Brendon began to feel about going out there. Not wanting the others to know what was going on he stood up and walked through his bedroom to the bathroom in back. He closed the door behind him then stood over the toilet trying to calm his nerves. It turned out to be a losing battle however and after a few minutes he started vomiting into the toilet. He hoped that the others couldn't hear him from the living room, he didn't want them knowing how nervous he was about making the trip to Wiggins'. He was the soldier of the group and the only person trained to fight so they were both counting on him to get them to a safer place. He didn't want them seeing him show any weakness, he needed to present a strong front to help keep them both calm and positive.
After a few heaves his stomach calmed down and he was relieved to see that he had mainly just lost liquids and most of his food had stayed down. He went into the kitchen and grabbed a sports drink and a banana to help rehydrate him and replace the little food he had lost. He noticed that the yogurt must have sparked Rebecca's appetite because he she was starting to eat a sandwich and had a bowl of grapes sitting next to her.
There wasn't much left to be packed so he told the others they were going to gear up in forty-five minutes but they were free to do whatever they needed until then provided the last of the supplies got packed. He suggested that they both change into thick pants and long sleeved shirts to help protect themselves.
When he was finished talking to the other two he headed over to the window and took another look outside. Sure enough the woman was still pinned between the two vehicles and there were about six other infected people wondering around the parking lot searching for a meal. He was going to have to come up with a plan for the three of them to get out of the building and to Wiggins'. He didn't want it to be an intricate plan since he had learned long ago that no matter how well you prepared for something it never went as planned. He just wanted to come up with a basic idea on how to get there, he could make the small decisions on the fly. One saying he had heard many times in the army was "keep it simple, stupid," and as odd as the phrase sounded it really made sense. The more basic your plan, the fewer things that can go wrong and throw you off. He moved over to the bags and began packing away the last of the gear as he tried to figure out the best way for them to get to their destination.
