Dead Drunk Screenplay

What does the term pre-production mean?

In almost every case I can think of it means never going to happen.

In the case of my movie, Dead Drunk, it sort of means something like I'll get there when I get there. In the past two years I've had three regional production companies ask for rights to the script, to which I politely decline. I'm slow, but I like to do things right. That's why Dead Drunk is now in it's 20th year of pre-production.

Will I ever make this movie? Seems less than fifty fifty on that. Is it possible another production company that I actually believe has it's shit together enough to make it the right way will step in? Also rather unlikely. Virtually 100% of movies never get made. 

But being a poet first, words have intense meaning to me, which is why I'm so shocked that most directors go into production with a shitty script that seems to be an afterthought. For me it's got to be on the page first. I don't know how other people feel about it, but that's how it is for me.

After twenty years I'd never try to convince anyone it was finished, so if anyone has any feedback or ideas I'd be happy to hear them. My overriding concern is how to make this script actually shootable and maintain as much of the sprawling action as possible. That's the potential producer and director in me fighting it out with the writer.
