Eli heard a heavy clatter directly behind him. He turned to see an ax vibrating on the ground behind him. He bent over to pick it up. He looked over it carefully, holding it with both hands. Then he heard a loud 'Mrh?' to the north, a began lurching towards it.

A light filled the club. Eli shambled into a corner, surprised. He got ready to attack, but he didn't know at what just yet. Then he heard voices, from the direction of the fire escape.

"Come on, they'll catch us!"

"You sure its empty?"

"Its all we got."

"Guys! Shut up! I heard something!"

Eli woke up with a loud bang and a sharp pain. "That was my last bullet", the form over his couch said. All Eli could see was a blob lingering over him in the dark of the club. At this range, his flak jacket didn't protect him. He worked up the energy to ask "why?". "My friend was dying. He described you. I found you."

Eli slowly opened the door to the police station. The building was abandoned, save for the man resting on the couch in the lobby. He quietly walked over, holding his ax steady. He looked down at the man, how uncomfortable he looked, how he could have had a family before the world went to hell.
