The Crazies

I just re-watched this one and I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it.  

They say this is a re-make, and strictly speaking, it is, but it feels like a fully realized and new film to me.  If you've seen Romero's original, you'll know what I mean.  In terms of production values, acting, and polish, there's a world of difference between them.  The only other qualm zombies fans might have about it is that it's not really a zombie film.  But if you consider "28 Days Later" a zombie film, then you have to except The Crazies into the club, too.

The film takes place in a small town in Iowa. The main character is the sheriff (played by Timothy Olyphant) and he starts to notice strange things happening with the residents of their sleepy little farm town -- like they are going crazy and trying to kill people.

Initially, the plot unfolds like a mystery, but keep moving along at a good pace.  When the real reason behind the outbreak of homicidal insanity become clear, the film shifts gears into an action film.  It acquits itself quite well and keeps the thrills and chills coming.  

I feel like this is a real underrated movie.  The direction is really first rate as is the acting.  If you haven't seen it, I say, give it a try.
