Will It happen like in the movies?

Okay guys we actually had an interesting discussion a few days ago on our facebook group so I thought I would post it here and see what you think... One of our crew members from My Zombie Apocalypse Chosen Few.com possed a question on the wall for debate. He asked...

I've always wondered with all the preparedness, would an outbreak really stand a chance? Let's say we're in the Resident Evil way of thinking, with a localized infection starting in just your town, could the world really get over-run? There are 1.5 million plus people in Jacksovnville Florida, and I think when this thing pops off, if it starts here first, I think we have a good chance of being the only area with actual zombie merchandise to sell, like my own ear necklace on E-Bay. Anyone else have an opinion of the zombie apocalypse ending just before it gets underway good?

And I responded...

well what people don't understand is its not as simple as in the movies... Its not like opps I broke this vile one day and the next the world has gone to hell... We have actually had zombie out breaks in small bits around the world. None of course called that. The only one that even got close to being called that was the out break in Africa with 27 villagers...

Nothing About this would really be as it is in the movies though... Is it possible... of course it is... and with the spread and mutation of several viruses and technology growing every day it is becoming more and more likely... However for it to happen it wouldn't be as fast. It would be near impossible to spread across the ocean and there would have to be several different screw ups along the way and not just one... But the thing that should keep you up at night is even as hard as it would be to reach that level... with every new advancement, every new atom split... our chances increase... our own strive to do better is literally bringing us closer to things like the zombie virus every day.

So okay... I am not going to post the whole discussion but i will post a few of the other responses from my group AND IF YOU WANT THEN YOU CAN WEIGH IN... I would love to know what you guys think.

It could be very fast if it hit major city's.... Airplane travel would be a big one as it would have the means to travel much further undetected. If it were viral some take up to 3 days to show symptoms. If it were blood born mosquitoes, gnats and flies would be a major producer.

The safest country would probably be Australia.

Not many travel there and its not highly populated.

I do believe that with the animal rabies it could pass to primates and if that happened and it mutated we could contract it. We share 99% of our DNA with chimpanzees.

The arctic would also be a good location to hold fort.

It would be back yo primitive times but who cares if we live comfortably. The bastards would freeze way before they got to us.

I would think that like in Dawn of the Dead 2004 where Australia closed it's borders, and stopped incoming flights at the airport, they would be [pretty much safe, Greenland and Iceland as well, as they are isolated and cold, and new zeal and, it's 22 hours by plane...... that's just crazy. But my thought is that even with it out breaking in a major city, if you wake up tomorrow to zombies in just your town not world wide, do you think they would make it past there or would you and your chosen few be able to eradicate them like in night of the living dead?

And as far as the virus going global, chew on this for a minute. As soon as the zombie outbreak is underway, whether it survives or not, like in Dead Rising, where the US government destroyed the town and any and all zombies, someone took and weaponized the virus and unleashed it in a small US town..... so someone out there would get a zombie without destroying it, and use it to infect test subjects, and eventually weaponize it themselves....... that is how it gets across the ocean, as an attack from UMBRELLA! Ok i went a little off the res with the last part but you know.

This is what I think... I prettty much stick with what i said in the begining except I didn't take into account the doormant status that a virus might have before starting to infect. That is intirly possible. We have safe guards for that of course as we do most things. Like going over seas you have to be up to date on your vaxinations and the military is even strictor then that about them... But an airplain that uses recycled air would be a perfect breeding ground for such viruses to take off.

As for the Island theory... I don't agree with it. There is no way to secure an island. As far as the arctic... I think that wouldn't be good either. Because yes it would be harder for them to get to us but you have to think that we have to live there to. We have to survive there for possibly a long period of time and we don't need to go somewhere that will make it harder for that to be achieved. I know that people don't like the ideas of more confining spaces but places like that that we can easily secure and have outside areas would be the best bets... Its the best way with us being so vastly out numbered for us to have a better chance of survival... Like the castle idea or the grand canyon one... Or and I just thought of this... A while back me and Christina where in this pawn shop and we were looking around and realized what a great spot that would be... As a matter of fact after I post this I will post the article she wrote on it....
