the reason they called it 28 Days Later was not because of the rage zombie. it was the time frame from the time the infection was released to the time it took over London. total time. 28 Days. and the definition of a zombie is a reanimated corps. if you go by all the movies (which is what we are we are all basing by). the zombie virus when it infects a host. kills its victim. then reanimates them. the key word is reanimate. a rage zombie does not go through the same process as a normal zombie does. which is why it is not a zombie. in a reanimated zombie. it has a active but defective brain with no functioning organs like the heart, lungs, and digestive system. a rage zombie still has those. just more in a rabid state. in fact that is basically what the rage zombie is infected with. a kind of super rabies. and any animal with rabies still has brain function and use of internal organs. a true zombie does not have use of the internal organs. anyone who has seen the 1980 version of Day of the Dead has seen the shot where Dr. Logan was explaining how a zombie with all the internal organs disconnected, still wanted to eat and even demonstrated it. the rage zombie as it is referred to. would still have the need for internal organs because it is not really dead. just a person who is irreversibly sick. like rabies. if you get bitten and treatment in time. you live. if not and the symptoms start to show. then all hope of living is lost. the mind goes first. then the throat starts to swell shut so the animal does not have the ability to eat or drink (hence the foaming of the mouth from constant saliva production). then they die from starvation or dehydration. that is why the lead soldier kept the infected soldier alive for. to study how long it took for one of the infected to starve to death. and as far as similarities go. other then a vacant stare. i see no other real similarity between a rage virus "zombie" and a true zombie. i am afraid you will have to point them out to me.

well i stand corrected on that one however it still makes the same point. I am not arguing they have differences I am arguing they have a lot of similarities. Also that throughout time many definitions of things have expanded to fit evolution. Why not zombies? I study the science of what one would actually be like in real life and not just the movies. Don't get me wrong I take bits and pieces from the movies but always having the perspective that these are a work of fiction. So when we say the definition of zombies we should clarify the definition of zombies in movies. In real life it would be much different. There are at least 8 key viruses out there right now what could either mutate or join to form a variable of the zombie virus. There are other ways that this could happen of course however the virus is the more likely because it has many more ways of potentially doing it. As I said in the artical above. The rage zombie virus is way more likely to actually occure then any over when you look at it from a virus stand point. This is why I think we should expand our view on what constitutes a zombie. You asked about similarities...

 

1. The main one is the lose of your humanity and ability to control your body.
2. the extreme potential of both to start from some kind of viral outbreak
3. , The inability to feel pain,
4. the irrational and relentless earge to mutilate and eat flesh. (Which btw some people say that in the movies the rage virus doesnt do but it does. In the first and second movie there was several shots of them munchin on people.)
5. The fact that both can be spread by bite and/or scratch.
6. the fact that both are contagious by themselves are the similarities
7. both make you lose the sense of any form of self preservation of their own bodies
8. the fact that you were wrong about the human body in general not functioning after death whether you are a zombie or not after. the human body has quite a few functions that still occur long after death including still having partially functioning organs.
9. we would prepare to survive a world with both of them in it in similar or even the exact same ways.
10. neither poses the ability to form any rational or intelligent level in any lasting way.
11. the surest way to stop both of them would be to destroy the brain or cut off the head. 
12. they both eventually cause death in and/or themselves and others
13. they both kill in the same way even though one is faster then the other
14. The Fact that the Viruses and/or mutations do not seam to discriminate agenst race, sex, age or body type. Which when you are talking about viruses in real life, that is rare. Most viruses tend to target a specific group of people more thin others it not sole. Thats why we give them names like juvenile diabetes and such.
15. one of the only 2 viruses or sicknesses over time to still be attributed to magic or voodoo as a common explanation. That is Both in fiction and none fiction. I can send you the stories if you would like.

1. both quickly rose to icon status as being controversial and enjoyed in the  movie industry.

these are only a few out of my book... not even diving into the specific parts of the bodies that act the same and are still moving. Basically I know we can have trouble accepting change but in a realistic stand point we have done it through the years to the benefit or our kind. As we discover new things we need to expand our minds and definitions of things. Why shouldnt that apply to zombies as well... Especially sense we are more then likely going to have a rage virus over the original anyways in real life... also another thing that if you would like some further info on i can give to you... IF THE DEFINITION OF ZOMBIES FROM OVER 50 YEARS AGO DOES NOT FIT THE DEFINITION OF THE RAGE ZOMBIES THEN MAYBE ITS THE DEFINITION THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE... MAYBE THE DEFINITION NEEDS TO EVOLVE!!! i am afraid i am one of those that you are not gonna convince that a rage virus victim is a zombie of any kind. if they do crop up though i will have no problem shooting them in the face like their real zombie counterparts. they all die the same due to hollow points.
