YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE...MAYBE TWICE!

Survive the Post Apocalypse with Artificial Organs aka better living through bionics.

When Japanese design studio Takram was tasked with designing a better water bottle, it instead opted to transform the human body. Takram wanted to create a water bottle for post-apocalyptic scenarios – situations in which water will be scarce. But rather than re-invent the water bottle the studio thought it would be better to modify the way the human body regulates and recycles water. The result is the Shenu Hydrolemic System a set of artificial organs. The idea is to enable humans to survive longer with less water. The system consists of Rubedo candies to provide nutrients to the user as well as sinus cavity inserts to inhibit water loss through exhailation, arterial-jugular heat exchangers and a heat irradiant neck collar to inhibit perspiration, a urine concentrator to control water loss through urination, and a renal fecal dehydrator to to elongate fecal duration in the large intestine and squeeze out any remaining water.

The system is only a concept right now and one would hope the world never comes to a point where it would be absolutely needed. But we know it will! and it's good to know people are planning for the Mad Max era, and that there's great potential for artificial organs to provide body enhancement and not just care and replacement. this is the future of survival people. you dont just prep your homes, cars and bunkers. but also our selves, designer body's. coming to an REI near you soon!

Once that great apocalyptic event—contagion, climate change, nuclear holocaust, zombies, whatever—drowns out the huddled masses of humanity, we can take solace in at least one thing: those who remain will have no shortage of suggestions from art and pop culture as to how best to carry on.

If it's a zombie scenario, they could, for instance, go Walking Dead and form a scrappy band and shack up in a prison. If it's disease, they could hack their bodies, adding Matt-Damon-in-Elysium-style cyborg arm implants to do combat with the rich. If it's rising sea levels, they could follow one Tokyo design firm's advice, and outfit themselves with artificial organs designed to make the human body more water-efficient.

What you're looking at above is a pile of the freshly designed artificial organs, ostensibly conceived to increase the human body's capacity for conserving water in resource-scarce, post-apocalyptic environs. The project came about when two South Korean artists, Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joonho, asked the noted Japanese designer Kaz Yoneda, of the renowned takram design engineering, to build a water bottle for the grimmest sort of future—one where the world was "Afflicted by manmade causes, the rising sea level, radioactive emissions and release of hazardous materials into the environment."

Moon and Jeon were, according to their statement, working on a project "to bring together designers, architects and big thinkers to envision life in a catastrophic, post-apolcalyptic future." So instead of designing a water bottle, Kaz went cyberpunk. Once he realized how scarce water would be in a world ravaged by disaster in the climate-changed future, he upgraded his ambitions, and put together something called the Shenu: Hydrolemic System

In his team's words, here's how it works: "A set of artificial organs that work together to minimize intake and regulate water loss so that people with these organs can consume less water to survive.  This includes: nasal cavity inserts to inhibit water loss through exhalation; a urine concentrator; a renal dehydrator; and a heat irradiant neck collar."

Put it all on, and the future apocalypse survivors will look something like this:

The end result is sort of a 21st century, post-collapse moisture-recycling survivalist cyberpunk aesthetic. If I do say so myself. It's like Paul Atreides and the Fremen took to the Road. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is about to open an exhibition of the team's work, and it features the first-ever stateside showing for the Korean artists.

Here's a breakdown of the conceptual tech, piece by piece. First up, here's the requisitely nefarious-looking steel briefcase that contains all the organ parts.

These will be toted by the leather-clad agents of the underworld militias that have inevitably arisen to fill the power vacuum. And, of course, scrappy heroes who've managed to get ahold of a couple.

Here are "Rubedo candies," the hard-shelled candies from which you'll draw your moisture.

"Five of these contain the new daily-required intake of nutrients and 32 mL of water," takram explains.

And of course, your nasal cavity inserts.

"The moist air from the lungs is condensed here and returned upon inhalation." Why didn't we think of that.

You're also going to need a heat irradiant neck collar, naturally.

This will convert "the electrical energy generated by the exchangers back into heat and radiate it through polymicroporous titanium grills."

Here's where things get a little gross. Because, well, post-apocalyptic living isn't pretty. So let's say it bluntly: you're going to need to recycle your urine and feces. NASA is working on something like this, so takram ran with it.

Those friendly-looking devices are a "hydrolemic bladder"—a "microcosmic water filtration and uric concentration plant"—and a "Renal Fecular Dehydrator." Which, just: "Located in rectal ampulla, the dehydrator works to elongate fecal duration in the large intestine and squeeze out any remaining water."

There you have it. Your complete set moisture-recycling wearable gear for the end times.

wow sorry to hear about your kid man hope he gets better. as for this stuff this is just very early design work. just really to get the idea going about enhancing the body. and good to see someone in favor of the implants. i mean we already have people walking around with artificial corneas, like my grand father. heart valves and a guy just got an entire artificial heart that perfect replicated the automatic pumping that the real heart does. so you get excited it beats faster, you slow down it slows down. there's a great documentary called the the real bionic man where they take all these high end prosthesis and cobble together an inter human body out of them its pretty cool and shows you just what we're able to do with body replacement right now.

replacing an arm or a leg is no biggie for me. i can see this. but when it comes to certain types of implants. the kind that cause a drastic change to the human form. that i will never really sign off on. especially when it comes to those implants that go in the head or can alter ones perceptions. that kind of implant can be used to enslave. and when i think about what Jessie's son is going through versus what these implants you are talking about do. i cant help but agree with him on this. these things can actually cause more deaths from sever constipation from obstructed bowls alone. but when it comes to organ replacement. i will always have my skepticism on it.

sure anything can go wrong, which is why research and testing must be done first.

I've always dreamed of having a healing factor something like Wolverine's, the eyesight of the Tiger, hearing like an owl, sense of smell like a bear and the reflexes of a mongoose...Now saying that, if implants like nanobots could be introduced into my body that could possibly give me these traits I wouldn't hesitate one bit in being in line for those...As for things like actual mechanical parts, I'm not to sure on...

Prosthetic limbs and some of the mechanical implants like hearts for example, I can see it being something of a natural thing because of doctors trying to save a life or preserve a person's life...

But most of it falls in to the same category as plastic surgery does in my opinion...If it's needed for something like medical reasoning or even to help a victim of whatever tragedy, but doing it just in the name of vanity, that's something I just can't see doing...

Granted the nanobots I talked about earlier would be classified as a mechanical device, but with it being something that can be passed by the body once the device has died sort of speaking, I don't consider them among the same class...

I can see the mechanical implants as medical, life saving or prolonging ones life devices...But if you're adding them just because you can afford it and are trying to impede the natural order of life, such as immortality, I can't see using them in that sense...

I mean, I'm all for improving ones life during the time they are here on earth, but if you're trying to cheat death altogether, I can't see that...Not only would it effect the unstable eco system in which we live in, but could have way to much of an impact on the person physically, emotionally and mentally...

Sort of reminds me of the Highlander movies...The immortal striving to become mortal as the mortals thrive to become immortal...Just watching the journey in which Connor McCloud took throughout the years in which he lived, I could see the pain and the reality of the stress of living becoming more then just and overwhelming want and maybe even a consuming need to die....

The pros and cons of implants have always been debated throughout the invention of them...I have my doubts about them, but I can also see the vital need for these devices in which could save a life of a child or someone within their early stages of life...

you realize to have a healing factor you would have to be immortal. cells can only replicate a set number of times before they die do to the break down in a certain genome that fails to replicated properly after each cell division. like a candle burning down. if you wanted to speed up the proses of cellular division so you could heal faster it would either mean drastically shortening your life or being immortal. like lobsters. they contain a protean which replaces this damaged genome meaning that they never get old or suffer from age related disease. they just keep getting bigger until they die from getting sick or being served with a side of melted butter.

now if its just enhancing the quality of life their is a gene discovered that while it doesn't do anything by itself seams to regulate other genes in your body. if you could think of your body like an apartment then this gene is the apartment manager, making sure that everything inside is running smoothly. people who have multiple sets of these genes passed from both of their parents live much longer and healthier lives. and are responsible for what are called super senior citizens. old people with no age related illnesses and who are physically speaking the same as some one much younger. although they still look like old people. the gene doesn't do anything for grey hair and wrinkles.

personally i believe the future holds a mix of genetic engineering to bring ourselves to the peak of physical perfection. augmented by bionic enhancement. for example you know that you can only use about ten percent of your muscle capacity in daily use no mater how much you work out. you can still only use 10 percent. thats because your muscles are to strong for the ligaments the hold them to your bones. if you tried to use all 100 percent like some people who face life or death situations. mother who lift cars of children. you'll tear yourself apart.but now imagine that you had bionic implants in your muscles. simple extra ligaments and bracing imbedded in your muscles, made of super strong material. this would allow you to use all of your muscles with out damage. bones infused with carbon nano tubes the strongest material on earth. even more so then adamantium, and neural implants the let you connect your mind directly to a computer. or to speed up your brains processing so that time would seam to pass at 1/100th the speed of normal. imagine what you could do with infinite amount of time to think about a problem. thats the future i dream of.

here is a great look at what the future of humanity will hold when we can upgrade ourselves the same way we do our computers and appliances. in this show futurescape episode 6 how to be a super human we learn how to turn off pain. make our skin indestructible. enhance our sense beyond biological capability and put on a suit that turns a paraplegic into superman. all with technology currently under development. and you can watch it here right now for free. http://www.putlocker.com/file/A5E80A292617AEC7

the secret to immortality is here.

http://www.putlocker.com/file/ED92E7B0DD8F1CE3#

i tried to watch this video. i still can only see a over populated world where being immortal is our own doom bro. we as a species were not meant to live forever. the natural order is we are born, we age, we die. when we die. room for the next generation is made. its in the next generation that we advance. not our immortality. even if we are reduced to just a state of conciousness. there is only so much room out there and more space will be needed for the new minds being born. contrary to belief. space is not unlimited. there is only just so much room in space until there is no more space. hence the natural order. immortality without a price is nothing more then a pipe dream.

well thats your right but i disagree just because its nature's way doesn't mean its right. the very fact that we can go against nature and bend the world around us to our will is the very thing that makes us human. look what we cn do, what we can build. have you ever just stopped and taken a look at a major metropolitan city. all the work and imagination that came into re structuring the land to such a degree. this is just my view on things but i believe our planet no the whole universe is just one giant machine. a self sustaining engine with only one purpose. to create sentient life like us. the whole of existence was made for us. we were as children till now, letting evolution hold our hand and guide us along. but now that we've grown up its time to put away childish things. to cast off evolution and take maters into our own hands. to learn the secrets of everything and bend the very fabric of reality to our wills. until we reach a point of understanding that will place us face to face with who ever or what ever created us. think about it how would god really talk to us. a being like that would be so far above us that we wouldn't be able to understand it. we would be as single celled organisms trying to understand what a human was. the only way to truly converse with someone is if your on equal footing with them. if your below someone you won't understand them, above and you'll think them stupid. but level two beings of the same perception will finally be able to talk. and we will learn the true secret behind our existence. and it all start with immortality.

but hey thats sjut my personal religious views

yes. it is in our nature to improve on ourselves. but on some things. we are so infatuated about being able to do them. we as a whole never think on if we even should do them. i often read posts like this and a quote comes to mind that came from Day of the Dead made in 1985.

straight from the pilots mouth. lol.

i disagree finding out why the stars are where they are is the only reason to keep going. discovery and understanding it what we were built for. we don't have shard claws or teeth. we don't have big muscles like other animals. no we have brains. that few pounds of gelatinous mush that is more valuable then any other animal adaptation. we are the only animal on this planet and as far as we can tell with in visible space capable of understanding the world around us. to marvel at its beauty and figure our its mechanics. no other animal has that privilege. they might see the sun set but they can't understand it. they cant marvel at its beauty. they can't wonder why the sky dances like its on fire or how all those colors are born and then fade away. only we can. we are the observers of his work. would the rocks and trees and the sun sets be hear with out us. sure. but what purpose would they have. if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound. well subatomic particles the building blocks of you me and everything under creation are only in a fixed state when observed. other wise they're fluctuating between between different states. maybe even different probability's. so the real question is. if a tree falls in the forest and none is around to see, does it even exist?!

i like to think of reality as an ever shift possibility's that doesn't become what it is until we observe it and make it happen. in which case with out us,there literal is nothing. just a cat in a box both a live and dead.

but even if all of that wasn't the case what the other alternative. we all stay here on this little rock singing kumbaya until the sun runs out of energy expands into a red giant and burns everything back into subatomic particles before anyone can even blink.

Been Awhile, BUt I'm still Alive

Greetings Everyone,    Well it's been awhile. As things go, life carries us all in different directions from time to time but you always find your way home sooner or later. Well, life ain't all fun and games, but right now, things are going good. I have restarted my writing on my book again, and as I learn more about about some of the ROle-playing games I have gotten into, I am seriously thinking about rying to create an actual Zombie Survival Role-playing game. But have not set any time…
