Stolen Medical Equipment May Be Diseased Search On For Florida Hospital Thieves

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Thieves took off with medical equipment worth $500,000 from Florida Hospital Orlando on Wednesday, and the stolen machines were discarded after being used for a patient who had a deadly brain disease.  According to the police report, the equipment had been decontaminated with a highly concentrated formula of sodium hydroxide.

Surveillance images show the white pickup truck with dark panels and a trailer that Orlando Police Department officers believed was used to steal discarded machines from the hospital’s pathology center.  The equipment was taken from an unsecured dumpster where it was to be picked up and taken to a furnace for disposal, according to police.  The thieves may have thought they were making off with a big score, but investigators said they likely didn’t know the lab machines may be coated with a disease similar to mad cow.

Florida Hospital released a statement saying the machines underwent an aggressive chemical decontamination treatment and given the nature of CJD said, "There is no significant risk of transmission of the disease to patients, employees or the public."Anyone who may know more about this case should contact Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
According to reports, the machines, a medical scanner and lab machines, were being disposed of because they had been used to biopsy the brain of a patient with Prion disease, or CJD, a rapidly progressive and deadly illness that occurs when prion proteins in the brain become abnormal.  "Since 1976, there hasn't been any cases related to equipment related to CJD because of proper sterilization procedures that are in place in different health care facilities," said Mirna Chamorro of the Orange County Health Department. "So it's up to the health care facilities to maintain and use the proper sterilization procedures."  Officials say the machine should not be touched, but insists there's not public health danger.  "There's not a public health risk. This disease, CJD, is not transmitted person to person. It occurs usually spontaneously in a person or it can be inherited," said Chamorro.

The first thing that I noticed was the large and expensive medical equipment that they where throwing away even after sanitizing it, while at the same time saying that the brain virus could not be transmitted person to person. That didn't make sense to me.

Questions

  1. What is considered medical hazardous waste?
  2. What is this brain virus?
  3. How much is the medical equipment worth?
  4. Where does the waste from this facility usually go and was it going there this time?
  5. If it wasn't going there then where was it going before it got stolen?

These are the questions I think we should have answers for. This one seams to be the one story that is related to the Miami Zombie and the one we have the most info on. Think it's a good place to start. So lets do it Scooby gang! :)

this makes sense to me. the guy that did the eating was a petty criminal. if they fingerprint the other guy and do a background check then they will find out not only his name. they will find out his background and i will bet they will find he to is a petty crook. and a arrest record tends to also list known associates in crime. and if these two goofs stole the lab equipment. they need to quarantine the surviving goof and watch him CLOSE! one more point of order. this lab equipment is capable of way more then testing for a brain disease. its the type of shit a government funded lab would have to do some really heavy viral work with. so the whole pitching it due to bacteria thing. i have a hard time swallowing that. i think they were moving the lab and the two men in question just stumbled upon what they thought was an easy score when left unattended. major case of bad timing. very bad timing. time to put some thumb tacks in a Florida map and keep a close watch for more activity. if i dont miss my guess. there will be more. a lot more.

I have actually turned this over to a chemist friend of mine who can get ahold of the info we need on a lot of different levels. Give me the chance to explore all the rest also. SO in a few days she will give me a full report, answering the questions I posed and more and I will post it.

That is a good theory though... Gonna look into it now.

Me to... that is why I focused on this one first. I def gave this to the right person though. She has way more know how then I do on this subject and a lot more resources. SO she will get it done and get back to me in a few days. I will post right away what she finds. Until then I am gonna keep working on the other info but will always have this one in my head :)

I have to read all the post because this looks like the beginning of a BIG COVER UP!

trust me! Youl'll wanna piece of this! there are three different discussions right now. :)

you know. during all this there has NOT been one word of it in the news here in Ohio and they usually have their noses in EVERYTHING due to the lack of anything good here. NOT ONE PEEP! so i cant help but think there is going to be a coverup and containment procedure in the works.

There are more!!!! I am putting something together right now that is gonna fuck with your head! Will post as soon as I am done! A connection between  three stories! Wait till you see!!!!!

ALRIGHT !!!!!!!!

they say that it cant be transmitted from peron to peron but then how did the man that had this disease catch it? i think it can be transmittable and people should be careful of who they interact with!

true. they are saying it is a non transmittable disease. but i think these two were the ones that stole the lab equipment that was used to diagnose a form of mad cow disease. that would be enough to expose them to and contract it. and being some people contract things faster. i think that is why the one attacked the other so fast.

exactly thats what im sayin and then the police are sayin that the miami cannibal was on some new type of LSD  drug which i think is total bullshit... through the years people come up with different drugs and have never done such a thing like that! maybe they would act crazy, kill themselves, or put in danger anyone else but to eat another person not ever...

OKAY GUYS GO TO THE UPDATE DISCUSSION! I POSTED IT THERE!

Been Awhile, BUt I'm still Alive

Greetings Everyone,    Well it's been awhile. As things go, life carries us all in different directions from time to time but you always find your way home sooner or later. Well, life ain't all fun and games, but right now, things are going good. I have restarted my writing on my book again, and as I learn more about about some of the ROle-playing games I have gotten into, I am seriously thinking about rying to create an actual Zombie Survival Role-playing game. But have not set any time…
