"PLAY DEAD - THE BOOK AND OFFICIAL TRAILER RELEASED

Innovative Trailer Introduces New Author to the Zombie World!

Writer Ryan Brown’s premiere novel 'PLAY DEAD' (available now in bookstores and wherever books are sold on
Gallery
Books
, $24.95) is a fast, funny
and frightening look at our nation’s obsession with football—and our growing
fascination with zombies. In conjunction with Gallery Books' release of
“Play Dead”, horror director Doug Sakmann was commissioned to create a viral
campaign for the book.

Brown states, "As the focal point of an innovative viral web campaign,
Sakmann and his talented team at
Backseat Conceptions (www.backseatconceptions.com) have created a truly jaw-dropping trailer
to introduce my novel “PLAY DEAD” to the world of zombie fiction and its
devoted fans. Scary, thrilling, and hilariously grotesque, they have perfectly
captured the spirit of “Play Dead” with this exciting and ambitious
adaptation."

No stranger to the world of the undead, Sakmann explains, "We always have a lot fun with zombies so I jumped at the chance to work with Ryan and the great source
material provided from “Play Dead.” I decided the best way to go about it was
to approach it as if we were making a movie, so we turned sections of the book
into scripts. Over two days, we shot 12 key scenes to piece together a trailer,
and came away with enough footage to make a short film. The trailer we're now
releasing is just a taste of what's to come for Play Dead."

“Play Dead” is
available now everywhere books are sold. And you can
see the mainstream trailer at the official book website at
http://www.simonandschuster.com/playdead.
On May 30th in Brooklyn NY,
as part of the
NYC Zombie
Crawl (www.nyczombiecrawl.com)
a
more extreme Red Band trailer and selected scenes from Play Dead: The Movie
will premiere at the Knitting Factory. Brown will be on hand for a meet and
greet and to sign books along with a Q & A session with Sakmann and the
cast and crew of
Play Dead:
The Movie
.

Play Dead: The Movie stars newcomers Brandon Jones as Cole Logan, star quarterback of the Killington Jackrabbits and Kate Boyer as ace reporter Savannah Hickham.
Rounding out the cast are Chris Gonzalez and Michael O'Conner and Booker and
Manny of the evil rival team the Elmwood Badgers. The project also features
genre stars Monique ‘Gata’ Dupree (Satan Hates You, Skeleton Key 2) as the
mysterious Black Mona and J.D. Brown (Wicked Lake,
The Burnt House) as Coach Hickham. The project was Assistant Directed by Evan
Meszaros (director of the award winning Horror-Thriller "Windcroft")
with Jarred Alterman as the Director of Photography (DP of
"Windcroft" and "Die You Zombie Bastards") as well as many
of Backseat Conceptions' past projects, and Tim Cronin as the stunt coordinator
("Poultrygiest: Night of the Chicken Dead") and several other indie
features.

The Movie's was scored by local band
Cleric (www.iamcleric.com), a Philly quartet that mixes elements of doom, grindcore and
noise into a vicious, bloody stew of liberating loudness. Cleric's film-scoring
alter egos Mr. 19 and Hick, Nick and Jew of the Dead have provided music to
many of Backseat Conception’s projects including "Punk Rock
Holocaust" 1 & 2 and the upcoming "The Burnt House".
Their new album "
Regressions" was just released on Web of Mimicry
records.

About “Play Dead” written by Ryan Brown

For the first time in Killington High School history, the
Jack Rabbits are one win away from the district championship game.  But on
the morning of the big game, their star quarterback, Cole Logan, is brutally
attacked. When Cole insists on playing the game, the bus carrying the Jack
Rabbits skids off a bridge and plunges into a river.  With everyone except
Cole and the Coach dead, police suspect foul play. Cole enlists the coach’s
daughter, Savannah,
and Black Mona to revive the dead players.  In an intricate midnight
ceremony, Mona raises the team bus from the river.  But the players aren’t
truly alive or dead.  In 48 hours they turn completely evil—unless the
zombie players win one more game against the their ruthless rivals, the Elmwood
Badgers.

“In this Friday Night Lights meets Dawn of the Dead, Ryan Brown has created a game-winning debut! Everything is bigger in Texas.  Even the zombies. Play Dead
is fast, funny, frightening, and will have you reading well into the
night. Ryan Brown is the new Stephen King.”
—Brad Thor, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Apostle

“Ryan Brown vaults straight to the pro game with this outstanding
debut.  It's got everything: pace, energy, tension and drive.  If you
could inject it, it would be a banned substance.”
—Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Nothing to Lose

Play Dead is everything a 21st-century zombie novel should be: scary,
funny, sick, twisted, inventive and (despite the undead protagonist) FRESH!
As far as first novels go, this is a touchdown pass!”

Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. Two cultural obsessions collide head-on in this fast-paced, thrilling, and terribly funny debut by former actor Brown. In the sleepy town of Killington, Tex., the local high school's football team is having its best season in decades thanks to the efforts of quarterback Cole Logan. Afraid of losing the district championship, the rival Elmwood team sends the Killington bus into a river, drowning everyone on the team except Cole and the coach. Only local witch and football fan Black Mona can raise the players from the dead in time for the game, but if they keep stopping to eat people, they might miss it. Brown handily mixes elements of horror, coming-of-age sweetness, and gore-soaked comedy into a tale that satisfies the same fascination with sports and bloodlust that it cleverly and thoughtfully critiques. Been Awhile, BUt I'm still Alive

Greetings Everyone,    Well it's been awhile. As things go, life carries us all in different directions from time to time but you always find your way home sooner or later. Well, life ain't all fun and games, but right now, things are going good. I have restarted my writing on my book again, and as I learn more about about some of the ROle-playing games I have gotten into, I am seriously thinking about rying to create an actual Zombie Survival Role-playing game.
