Horror: Snubbed by the Oscars?

In the aftermath of the recent eighty third Academy Award Ceremony  i have noticed the only film with a horror theme to win an Oscar was The Silence Of The Lambs back in 1992, to qualify for an Oscar the film in question must have the Following criteria:

1) They must have received a significant amount of critical praise in their day.

2) They must have been high-profile and performed at least moderately at the box-office.

3) They must be generally accepted as classics (or at least near-classics) by modern-day film critics.

In  2010 the Oscars gave horror films a lifeline after a four minute retrospective introduced by Kirsten Stewart and Taylor Lautner of all people yet in the list of films that have won an Oscar going back to the very first Academy Awards back in 1929 no horror film has won an oscar.

Even though eighty films that have some substantial horror themes only twenty seven have been nominated for one of the non-technical awards i.e. Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Best Supporting Actor/Actress and Best Screenplay and out of the twenty seven nominated only SIX have ever been nominated for Best Picture and those six are Deliverence, The Exorcist, Jaws, Fatal Attraction, The Silence Of The Lambs and The Sixth Sense and only one of these films has won an Oscar.

So are The Oscars unfair? in my eyes, yes.
